Yuneec Typhoon H First Look And Overview From CES

Okay, so I’m a bit behind in my video editing, but hey, I’m peddling as fast as I can!

Having recently returned from the Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas, I have to say that one of the most talked about products at this year’s show is Yuneec’s Typhoon H hexacopter. While it seems that the well known names in the consumer drone business were fairly quiet at this year’s show and, while it was rumored, GoPro did not use CES to introduce it’s GoPro Karma copter, it’s easy to say that Yuneec stole the show in this product category.

Typhoon H CES

One of the reasons that Yuneec captured so much attention with its Typhoon H is that it was introduced by Intel during its keynote address during the CES’s opening events. The reason is that the Typhoon H is the first copter to incorporate Intel’s new SmartSense technology that creates a new method of obstacle avoidance. While the Typhoon H includes a sonar-type of obstacle avoidance, it is designed to allow the SmartSense system to be added later. So, when the Typhoon H begins shipping this Spring ($1,800), you can buy it and later add the enhanced avoidance system.

In this video, Trent Siggard, a Yuneec Product Manager walks me through the Typhoon H while Tim Terrones operates the copter. Allow me to apologize for the audio quality upfront, but hey, I’ll get it better next time!
