About The Gadget Guru
Andy Pargh, a.k.a.
The Gadget Guru has been involved
in the new products and technology industry for more than a quarter of a
century!
Since graduating from the University of Miami in
1975 his career has centered around the world of new products and technology.
After working a brief period for his brother's wholesale distributing company,
he embarked on a path that led him into Sales and Marketing positions for major
new products manufacturers. From Texas Instruments and Panasonic to Sanyo and
Uniden, he was there for the mass marketing of the calculator, the digital
watch, the introductions of the VCR and the telephone answering machine, the
cordless phone and more, he was there for the launch of products that made our
daily lives simpler and more fun.
Early in his career he realized that he had a gift:
He could take the complicated world of new products and make it easy and fun to
understand. This is why millions of readers, viewers and surfers consistently
turned to The Gadget Guru to learn what's hot. His everyman straight talk (not
technobabble) style of journalism makes consumers feel comfortable, not
intimidated with the latest technologies.
In the early 1980's he realized that there was not
enough consumer information flowing through the media, so he began a weekly
segment showing and telling about the latest new consumer gadgets and exciting
technologies on WSMV-TV -- the NBC affiliate in Nashville, Tennessee. At that
time, nobody was showing new items on TV. This was truly a revolutionary move
for it's time.
From
that point he began writing a weekly newspaper column for The Tennessean. This
column was so innovative that it caught on quickly and was soon distributed
nationwide by Creators and The New York Times syndicates. His next newspaper
step was to USA Today where he wrote and produced special features for multiple
sections as well as The Gadget Guru's Imagine This! page
At the same time he began showing new products on
national and syndicated television shows around the country
culminating
in a holiday appearance on NBC's Today Show. His knowledge of new products and
his high-energy style caught the eyes of the viewers and Today Show management.
They immediately signed him to a contract and The Gadget Guru segments
immediately began appearing on-the-air twice per month. He reported live from
the NBC Studios in 30 Rockefeller Plaza as well as from remote locations around
the country covering everything from the hottest new
product
offerings to the coolest roller coasters on the planet. When the Saturday Today
Show began in the early 1990's, Andy Pargh, The Gadget Guru was there. From day
one of Saturday Today he appeared weekly in his regularly scheduled segment.
Andy
Pargh has also appeared on top shows such as Oprah, Late Night with Conan
O'Brien, Donahue as well as writing for magazines such as Sound and Vision,
Newsweek, Satellite TV Week and publishing his own magazine: The Gadget Guru's
Best Stuff. He has also published three books with Warner Books.
Andy also hosted the annual
syndicated Hi-Tech Toys for
the Holidays TV Show for two seasons and was the on-air spokesman for the Learn2 lineup of educational software
products.
Andy is currently living in the South Florida area
where he is constantly working to improve his golf game.
